The most serious ‘injury’ I’ve had during an experiment is a a cut on my finger. My experiments are done with really heavy equipment and a dropped one piece on my finger. It was completely fine apart from it bled a lot, all over the equipment :/
Luckily I cleaned it up before anyone noticed.

Once I have stayed too close to a UV lamp and I got a bit sunburned but nothing serious and an after sun cream did the trick ! 🙂

The only lab related injury I’ve had is a massive bruise on my hip from trying to open the door to my new lab. I literally had to throw myself at it. :s

I had to go to hospital once to get my eyes flushed with salt water after an accident with sodium hydroxide – it’s really alkaline so it can give you nasty burns! I was wearing safety glasses luckily, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been 🙂 always wear safety glasses!!

Luckily I have never had a serious injury during a campaign. Many cuts and bruises from installing equipment, but that is likely because I am generally accident prone (having broken my left arm five times!). However, last month right before I arrived back to Namibia to disassemble our equipment my colleagues took a corner too fast in our project Toyota and rolled the vehicle! They were very lucky to be relatively close to a town and were air lifted back to the capital city. One had a broken neck and the other broke his shoulder blade – not a very nice souvenir to come back to the UK with.
